At age 27, Mark Oates has been studying music for almost 20 years and has been composing for almost 10 years. Oates started as a young Trombone player and later began to take on other instruments as well. At the university level, Oates studied Trombone, Euphonium, and Trumpet in addition to composition at Wichita State University, Oklahoma State University, and the University of New Mexico. He has performed in choirs, professional orchestras, drum corps, brass quintets, bands, wind ensembles and a rock group.
Oates has won several music awards for his film scores and concert compositions, and has recorded with Grammy award winning record producers and engineers. He has performed with many top groups and toured across the United States, Japan, Europe and has written music for game designers in Poland, Germany, Finland, Norway, Brazil, and the United States. To this date, Oates has composed scores for almost 50 short films, 5 feature films, and a theatrical play.
